The Accidental Dragon

by Laurie Weaver

The wings folded up
the fire died,
and scales fell down like rain.
Poor Tommy smashed the clay and cried
And didn't shape again.

He grew up and learned some math
and business things instead.
But funny thing, That dragon...
never really left his head.

He was married now
and had a house
and children of his own
He hadn't time for silly things,
Not after he was grown.

One day his son said to him,
"Daddy come and play!
Bringing out a set of paints and
clumps of colored clay.

Tommy knew that it was good to
spend time with his son,
so they painted, laughed and made some shapes,
and finally, when they were done...

Tommy held up a purple snake
for his son to see.
"But Daddy..." said his son,
"That's a dragon you've made for me!"
